Weight Loss Success
Weight loss success does not come in the form of a diet pill or a magical exercise machine. Those people who have had success at losing weight and keeping it off have three common factors; commitment, knowledge and motivation. Although losing weight takes more than these three ingredients, these are key in order to start, follow through and complete your weight loss journey. Rather than repeat the same common weight loss tips like drink water, eat less fat and sugars and exercise, I am going to give you some tips to help you commit to your weight loss, gain the knowledge you need and how to motivate yourself to lose weight. Weight Loss Committment Committing to weight loss is not simply saying you want to lose weight, although this is a great start. You have to plan it, write it down and execute the plan. Create goals, both your ultimate goal and smaller goals and then determine how you will execute the plan. Writing it down and planning it out helps solidify your commitment. For instance, do you plan to only diet by changing eating habits to healthier foods or will you be adding exercise as well. Studies show that those who add exercise in addition to dieting lose weight faster and are more likely to keep it off versus those who only diet. Weight Loss Knowledge Regardless of whether or not you will be adding exercise to your weight loss plan you must understand your daily calorie intake needs for weight loss. To lose weight you must create a calorie deficit, meaning you must consume fewer calories than what your maintenance calories are. To do this you must first understand your basal metabolic rate (BMR) or the rate which you burn calories by doing your normal everyday things including sleeping. Your BMR will be based on your age and gender, weight and height and activity level. You will also want to understand the right foods to eat and what triggers you to sneak that extra cookie. We all know that veggies and fruits are good for you but there are many other foods you should be getting as well, such as whole grain foods, high protein and low fat foods. Weight Loss Motivation The last element you need to be successful in reaching your goals is weight loss motivation. Losing weight can be challenging and frustrating so learning ways to keep you motivated will ensure you cross the finish line. Find a support group or a diet buddy to help you stay motivated. Talking about your experiences, progress and frustrations are a great way to keep you thinking about weight loss and stay motivated. Another great weight loss motivation is set up a reward system. Reward yourself when you have had a good week or reached a significant goal like losing 5 pounds. Don't reward yourself with food but rather buy something new or go out for a fun night with your friends. So get committed, get smart and get motivated to lose weight. With these three items you can be successful. |
