New Year's Noise Maker Crafts for Kids
By Julie Barros
Kids love making lots of noise and celebrating the New Year is the perfect time to let them get loud and happy. Make this year's celebration extra special by making noise maker kids crafts to help bring in the new year. With the Christmas holiday over and the shopping all done, the kids are finally starting to wind down and relax. Yeah right!! Kids have all the energy we wish we had and instead of relaxing they are looking forward to their next adventure and the next holiday. With New Year's just around the corner and the kids still full of energy, now is the perfect time to make some fun party hats, confetti poppers and of course the all time favorite craft for New Years - noise makers. What You Need for Noise Makers Noise makers for New Years is nothing new. We have all banged on a pot and pan or two and yelled out the door "Happy New Year" at the stroke of midnight. But this year let the kids get in on some fun before the calendar changes to the new year by making their own fun noise makers. The craft supplies needed for noise makers are as simple as some empty toilet paper cardboard rolls, paper plates, empty coffee cans and even those empty ribbon spools left over from wrapping Christmas presents. How to Make a Noise Maker for New Year's Celebration One of our favorite noise makers (for kids and adults alike) is the lollipop or spinning drum noise maker. If you are old enough then you remember the movie Karate Kid and the cute little hand held drum they used in the movie. Well this little drum is the perfect kids craft to really make some noise for the New Year's celebration. Simply take an empty ribbon spool and cover both ends with some construction paper and decorate as you wish. You can put the current year on one end and the new year on the other to signify the changing of the years. Then using a wooden BBQ skewer, poke this through the bottom of the spool up to the top. This is the stick you will hold and turn in your hand. Now poke a hole on both sides of the lollipop drum (ribbon spool) and then thread a wooden bead on some string. Push this string (both ends) through the hole and tie it off. That is all there is to this kids craft idea. How to Use Your Noise Maker All you have to do to make some noise is place the stick in the palm of your hands. Now just start rubbing your hands back and forth the turn the stick. This will cause the string and wooden beads to bang against the sides of the ribbon spool and make the drum noise. Kids love playing with this noise maker craft anytime of the year and they are are easy to make. Make one for everyone joining in on the celebration and make lots of noise this New Year's Eve.
